Quick answer

What is the internship?

Gearbox Technologies is seeking a currently enrolled college or university student for a remote Sales Development and Research Internship during the Fall 2026 semester. The role focuses on market research, customer discovery, sales messaging, CRM organization, and supervised outreach connected to BayNerve and Gearbox Technologies’ broader automotive software work.

BayNerve is built for independent automotive repair businesses, which makes thoughtful market research especially important. Repair shops differ in size, workflow, customer base, technology use, and the problems they need software to solve. This internship will help a student learn how a software company studies those differences and turns them into clearer customer profiles, better messaging, and more useful conversations.

The internship is not designed as a high-volume cold-calling role. The intern will not carry an individual sales quota, receive commission, or be expected to close business independently. The emphasis is on education, professional development, mentorship, structured research, and supervised practice.

The goal is to teach how an early-stage software company finds the right customers, learns from the market, and builds a sales process that can earn trust.

What the intern will learn

01
Market and account research Research repair shops, customer segments, geographic markets, competitors, and prospective accounts using organized, ethical research methods.
02
Ideal customer profiles Learn how evidence from the market is used to define which businesses are most likely to benefit from a software product.
03
Business-to-business sales development Understand the stages of a software sales process, how accounts are evaluated, and how research supports professional outreach.
04
Messaging and communication Draft emails, call outlines, discovery questions, and audience-specific messages for review and feedback.
05
CRM and sales-process organization Practice documenting account research, organizing prospective customers, reviewing basic sales metrics, and communicating findings to company leadership.

What the work may include

Under the direction and supervision of Gearbox Technologies leadership, the intern may research independent repair shops, document prospective-account information, assist with refining customer profiles, review publicly available competitor information, practice using CRM and research tools, observe selected customer conversations, and help evaluate which messages or market segments appear most promising.

The intern may also participate in small, supervised outreach exercises intended to develop professional communication skills. Assignments can be adjusted around the student’s academic background, interests, learning goals, classes, examinations, and university schedule.
